AJR56,1,1 Relating to: the 100 year anniversary of Peninsula State Park.

AJR56,1,3 Whereas, Peninsula State Park is celebrating its 100 year anniversary on June 7, 2009; and

AJR56,1,6 Whereas, Peninsula State Park was established in 1909 when the land was purchased for less than $20 an acre and is Wisconsin's second-oldest state park and the first established under the state park system; and

AJR56,1,9 Whereas, the 3,776-acre Peninsula State Park is the state park system's second-busiest park, number one revenue producer, and most popular camping destination with 468 campsites; and

AJR56,1,14 Whereas, Peninsula State Park is considered Wisconsin's most complete state park and offers a multitude of activities for visitors including hiking, bicycling, boating, fishing, golfing, and swimming during the spring, summer, and fall seasons and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and snowmobiling in the winter season; and

AJR56,2,2 Whereas, Peninsula State Park has a significant impact upon the local economy of Door County, generating up to 30,000,000 in revenues for businesses; and

AJR56,2,6 Whereas, Peninsula State Park is an icon of Door County and the state of Wisconsin, attracting visitors from across the state, region, and country and allowing them to experience the beauty and grandeur of Wisconsin's natural resources; now, therefore, be it

AJR56,2,9 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin hereby recognizes Peninsula State Park on the occasion of its centennial celebration.
