AJR66,1,52 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees was born on May 26, 1990, to Paul
3Drees and Dawn Bayer, and died on June 28, 2009, as a result of combat-related
4wounds suffered on June 24, 2009, while honorably serving his country in
5Afghanistan; and
AJR66,1,86 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees was a 2008 graduate of Peshtigo
7High School and enlisted in the United States Army National Guard prior to
8graduation; and
AJR66,1,129 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees served with distinction in the 2nd
10Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry
11Division, United States Army, when he was assigned to serve a one-year tour in
12Afghanistan; and
AJR66,1,1413 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees was the gunner on a Humvee in
14Konar Province on June 24, 2009, when his unit was ambushed; and

1Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees was wounded during the attack, but
2continued to defend his unit ensuring no other soldiers were wounded and
3compelling one of his unit to state, "No one else was hurt and it's because of Drees
4that no one else got hurt. He did his job and he did it well. He kept us safe. He is
5a hero to all of us."; and
AJR66,2,116 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees was awarded the Bronze Star Medal
7with "V" device to denote valor, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Good Conduct
8Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with
9Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service
10Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman
11Badge, the Overseas Service Bar, and the Expert Weapons Qualification Badge; and
AJR66,2,1312 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees' family and fellow citizens are very
13proud of him and know that he died honorably serving the nation; and
AJR66,2,1614 Whereas, Private First Class Steven Drees embodied the Army's core values of
15loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage and he
16is sorely missed; now, therefore, be it
AJR66,2,20 17Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
18the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of United States Army
19Private First Class Steven Drees and extends its deepest sympathies to his family,
20friends, and colleagues; and
AJR66,2,22 21Be it further resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of
22this joint resolution to his parents, Paul Drees and Dawn Bayer.
