AJR68,1,32 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to Walter
3and Marie Stephan on January 20, 1922, and died on June 10, 2009; and
AJR68,1,54 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan married Joanna Schmelzle in 1942 and was a
5loving husband, father, and grandfather; and
AJR68,1,86 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
7and then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law
8School; and
AJR68,1,109 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan returned to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to practice
10law; and
AJR68,1,1211 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan served as district attorney for several years and
12was then elected judge of Door County; and
AJR68,1,1413 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was judge for the state circuit court for twenty
14years and reserve judge for ten years, retiring at the age of 76; and

1Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was a member of the Knights of Columbus,
2Kiwanis, and the Wisconsin State Bar Association; and
AJR68,2,43 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan belonged to the St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay
4and served as lector and communion distributor; and
AJR68,2,75 Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was a true example of leadership, devotion, and
6commitment to his community and in making the world a better place; now,
7therefore, be it
AJR68,2,10 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
9legislature commends the life and public service of Edwin C. Stephan, expresses
10sorrow at his death, and extends its condolences to his family and friends.
