AJR19,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Carl Otte.

AJR19,1,3 Whereas, Carl Otte was born on June 24, 1923, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and died on January 13, 2011, in Sheboygan; and

AJR19,1,5 Whereas, Carl served his country in the U.S. Army and was deployed to the European Theater during World War II; and

AJR19,1,8 Whereas, Carl began his long and distinguished career in public service in 1962 by serving on the Sheboygan County Board where he served until his election to the state assembly in 1967; and

AJR19,1,10 Whereas, Carl was held in such respect by his colleagues in the assembly that he was eventually chosen to serve on the legislature's Joint Finance Committee; and

AJR19,1,13 Whereas, Carl was elected to the state senate in 1982 to serve the citizens of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Calumet, and Fond du Lac counties and served in this position until 1985; and

AJR19,2,2 Whereas, Carl was both unwavering in his dedication to his core beliefs and respectful of those with whom he disagreed and dedicated his time in the legislature to helping those who were most in need; specifically, the poor, needy, elderly, and the mentally ill; and

AJR19,2,7 Whereas, Carl continued to be active in his community following his retirement from the state senate by returning to serve on the county board; additionally, he kept a busy private life by volunteering at his local church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, participating in the Sheboygan Civic Orchestra, and engaging in a number of other recreational and community activities that he enjoyed greatly; and

AJR19,2,12 Whereas, Carl benefited greatly throughout his life and public career from the strong love and support of his wife, Ethel, their four children and their spouses, Allen and Cynthia Riesterer Otte, Jane and Allan Frey, Julie and Michael Lyon, and Lynn and John Maurin, and his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

AJR19,2,16 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature do commend the devoted public service that Carl Otte contributed to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

AJR19,2,18 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Carl's widow, Ethel, and to each of his four children.
