AJR53,1,42 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin is dedicated to providing and preserving a
3healthy environment for the benefit of the state's residents and future generations;
4and
AJR53,1,65 Whereas, the state recognizes that to maintain a healthy environment each
6person must play a part in reducing his or her carbon footprint; and
AJR53,1,107 Whereas, one acre of certain trees may remove, over the course of a year, as
8much as 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and one tree may absorb,
9during that same period, as much carbon dioxide as some cars produce when driven
1026,000 miles; and
AJR53,1,1411 Whereas, we recognize that, through actions and educational programs, we can
12raise awareness about environmental problems and make changes that will benefit
13the environment as well as the well-being of the state's citizens; now, therefore, be

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That September 15,
22011, shall be designated as Carbon Day in the state of Wisconsin to raise awareness
3about the need for reducing the state's carbon footprint; and, be it further
AJR53,2,7 4Resolved, That the legislature urges individuals, organizations, schools, and
5communities to play a part in reducing the State's carbon footprint by planting trees
6on September 15, 2011, and organizing special programs to educate the state's
7residents on steps that can be taken to reduce carbon emissions.
