Whereas, the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank organized the third
3annual Hunger Takes No Holiday, which began on February 2, 2012, and runs
4through April 9, 2012; and

Whereas, during the past two Hunger Takes No Holiday events, enough
6contributions have been made to provide over 100,000 meals to those in need in the
7city of Superior and throughout Douglas County; and

Whereas, the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank recovers nationally
9and regionally donated food, that might otherwise end up in a landfill, and provides
10it to non-profit agency partners and people in need in the city of Superior and
11Douglas County; and

Whereas, in 2011, the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank recovered
13and distributed 358,195 pounds of food for local residents, enough food for 286,556
14meals; and

1Whereas, the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank recovers food from
2national manufacturers when they overproduce goods, from Superior's Essentia
3Health when it has extra meals, and from Super One when it has a surplus of deli
4meat, produce, or dairy products; and

Whereas, the food rescued by Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is
6free, with every $1 donated providing $10 worth of food, or enough food for five meals;

Whereas, the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank has set an ambitious
92012 fundraising goal of $25,000, the equivalent 125,000 meals, by increasing
10awareness of the Hunger Takes No Holiday event through local, county, and
11statewide proclamations in the month of March; now, therefore, be it

12Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That in appreciation of
13Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank's efforts to combat hunger in Northern
14Wisconsin through the Hunger Takes No Holiday event, the legislature of the state
15of Wisconsin proclaims March to be Hunger Takes No Holiday Month; and, be it

18the executive director of the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.
