SJR22,1,32 Whereas, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was born October 13, 1925, in the
3town of Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, and passed on April 8, 2013; and
SJR22,1,54 Whereas, Prime Minister Thatcher, an outspoken world leader known to many
5as "The Iron Lady," became Europe's first female prime minister in 1979; and
SJR22,1,76 Whereas, Thatcher served for the longest continuous period in office by a
7British prime minister since the early 19th century; and
SJR22,1,108 Whereas, Prime Minister Thatcher was an example of strength and character,
9and a great ally who fortified the special relationship between the United Kingdom
10and the United States; and
SJR22,1,1211 Whereas, Thatcher fervently battled against communism and saw the Berlin
12Wall torn down in 1989; and
SJR22,1,1413 Whereas, she implemented sweeping reforms to trade unions and transferred
14large sections of the economy from public control to private ownership; and

4economic freedom and her belief in hard work helped lead Britain into prosperity;

7Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted and extraordinary public service
8Margaret Thatcher contributed to her country and to the world, and express their
9sorrow at her death.
