SJR33,1,2 Relating to: recognizing the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

SJR33,1,4 Whereas, in 1903, boyhood friends William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson completed the first design and manufacture of a motorcycle; and

SJR33,1,7 Whereas, in 1906, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company completed construction of its first building on the current site of the company's world headquarters; and

SJR33,1,9 Whereas, in 1907, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company was formally incorporated with 18 employees purchasing its first shares; and

SJR33,1,11 Whereas, Arthur Davidson implemented the "close to the customer" sales philosophy and established a worldwide network of motorcycle dealers; and

SJR33,1,13 Whereas, during World War I, Harley-Davidson supplied 17,000 motorcycles for use by Allied Armed Forces; and

SJR33,1,15 Whereas, the first Allied soldier to enter Germany following the signing of the armistice was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle; and

SJR33,2,2 Whereas, by 1920, Harley-Davidson was the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer; and

SJR33,2,5 Whereas, during World War II, Harley-Davidson built more than 90,000 motorcycles for use by United States and Allied personnel, earning four Army-Navy "E" Awards for excellence in wartime production; and

SJR33,2,8 Whereas, since 1980, as a national corporate sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Harley-Davidson has raised more than $90 million to fund research and health services; and

SJR33,2,10 Whereas, the Harley Owners Group, with more than one million members and 900 chapters worldwide, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013; and

SJR33,2,12 Whereas, Harley-Davidson Motor Company during 2012 produced more than 247,000 motorcycles and generated $4.9 billion in revenue; and

SJR33,2,15 Whereas, Harley-Davidson Motor Company has grown from a small enterprise established by boyhood friends from Wisconsin into one of the most recognizable and iconic brands in the world, with dealerships in 85 countries; and

SJR33,2,18 Whereas, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company is part of the fabric of communities throughout Wisconsin, and Harley Davidson motorcycles are a source of pride and enjoyment for owners, families, and friends; now, therefore, be it

SJR33,2,23 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature hereby honor and congratulate the Harley-Davidson Motor Company on its 110th anniversary and recognize the important contributions that its products and employees have made to the state of Wisconsin and the United States of America.
