AJR94,1,1 Relating to: commending and congratulating the Medical College of Wisconsin.

AJR94,1,4 Whereas, the history of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) dates back to 1893, with the founding of the Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons and, later that decade, the Milwaukee Medical College; and

AJR94,1,8 Whereas, the Milwaukee Medical College joined Marquette University in 1907, merged with the Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons to officially become the Marquette University School of Medicine in 1913, separated from Marquette University in 1967, and was renamed the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1970; and

AJR94,1,11 Whereas, MCW's current culture reflects the words spoken by Dr. John Bowman during the school's first capital campaign: "The people want the very best and will have nothing second-rate"; and

AJR94,1,14 Whereas, MCW has met this charge, providing world-class medical education, patient care, biomedical research, and community engagement to improve the health of the communities it serves; and

AJR94,2,4 Whereas, this spirit of excellence and deep commitment to training Wisconsin's next generation of physicians led MCW to embarking upon the creation of new medical education programs, the first being in northeast Wisconsin, to help address physician shortages in medically underserved regions of the state; and

AJR94,2,8 Whereas, building upon decades of strong partnership and collaboration, the State of Wisconsin partnered with MCW in the 2013-15 fiscal biennium to provide MCW with nearly $7.4 million in State Building Commission funding for the development of two new medical schools; and

AJR94,2,11 Whereas, MCW–Green Bay is designed to recruit medical students and integrate them into the very fabric of the communities they will serve as tomorrow's physicians; and

AJR94,2,13 Whereas, MCW–Green Bay officially opened with its inaugural class of medical students on July 1, 2015; and

AJR94,2,18 Whereas, numerous academic and health system partners in the northeast Wisconsin region have all come together with MCW to create a truly unique and community-based medical education for the inaugural class of MCW–Green Bay medical students, as well as generations of students and physicians yet to come; now, therefore, be it

AJR94,2,23 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature commends and congratulates the Medical College of Wisconsin for its deep commitment to improving the health and well-being of the citizens of Wisconsin and wishes success for MCW–Green Bay and all of its current and future students for years to come.
