SB730,1,2 1An Act to amend 119.32 (5), 119.40 (title) and 119.40 (1) (a); and to create 118.21
2(5) of the statutes; relating to: wages to be paid to substitute teachers.

This bill requires a school board to pay to a substitute teacher who has taught
in the same classroom for a period of 30 consecutive school days the same daily wage
that would be paid to a regular classroom teacher in the same or an equivalent
classroom.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB730,1 3Section 1. 118.21 (5) of the statutes is created to read:
SB730,1,74 118.21 (5) School boards shall give to a substitute teacher who teaches in the
5same classroom for a period of 30 consecutive school days a daily wage equivalent to
6the per diem salary established for a classroom teacher in the same or an equivalent
7classroom.

1Section 2. 119.32 (5) of the statutes is amended to read:

3schools shall assign all teachers and engage and assign substitute teachers at the per
4diem compensation fixed by the board.

SB730,2,148 119.40 (1) (a) Annually, the board shall establish a schedule of salaries for all
9classroom teachers, not including principals and vice principals, in the schools of the
10city, and a schedule of wages to be paid to substitute teaching staff. The board shall
11ensure that the daily wage established for a substitute teacher who teaches in the
12same classroom for a period of 30 consecutive school days is equivalent to the per
13diem salary established for a classroom teacher in the same or an equivalent
14classroom under this paragraph
