SJR97,1,32 Whereas, AIDS has killed more than 36 million people worldwide since 1981
3and remains a prominent global health issue today; and
SJR97,1,54 Whereas, in any given year, around 27,000 persons in the United States are
5diagnosed with AIDS; and
SJR97,1,76 Whereas, each year, over 13,000 Americans die from an AIDS-related
7complication; and
SJR97,1,98 Whereas, over 1.5 million people across the globe were victims of AIDS in 2013;
9and
SJR97,1,1310 Whereas, AIDS affects persons of all races, genders, and age groups, and there
11are numerous causes for the spread of AIDS including unsafe sexual contact,
12contaminated needles, and passage of the condition from mother to child during
13pregnancy; and
SJR97,1,1514 Whereas, education and awareness have been found crucial in preventing the
15spread of AIDS and helping those affected with the condition; and

1Whereas, the legislature has an opportunity to lead and contribute to the global
2awareness movement dedicated to understanding the causes, effects, and treatment
3options for those at risk for or already infected with AIDS; and
SJR97,2,64 Whereas, December 1 is designated as World AIDS Day across the globe as a
5call to action for the fight against AIDS and as a show of support for those living with
6AIDS; now, therefore, be it
SJR97,2,8 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
8hereby proclaims December 1, 2016, as World AIDS Day in Wisconsin.
