1999 Assembly Joint Resolution 40
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Patricia A. Goodrich.
Whereas, Patricia A. Goodrich was born on January 13, 1933, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and died on March 21, 1999, in Gold Canyon, Arizona; and
Whereas, she was educated in Missouri public schools and attended Jefferson City Junior College and Park College in Parkville, Missouri; and
Whereas, she married Philo "Bud" Goodrich and raised her family in Wisconsin; and
Whereas, she was first elected to the assembly in 1974, and served as representative of the 72nd assembly district, including portions of Waushara, Green Lake and Fond du Lac counties, for 5 terms; and
Whereas, she was elected minority caucus secretary in 1979 and 1981; and
Whereas, she pursued her interest in educational issues throughout her legislative career through her service on various assembly education committees and on legislative council special committees on education and school dropout prevention; and
Whereas, she was appointed by Governor Thompson as secretary of health and social service in September 1988 and served in that capacity until December 1990; and
Whereas, she served as a project director for studies of children's issues, especially children living in poverty, on behalf of the Wisconsin council on human concerns and other organizations which issued a series of reports called "WisKids Count"; and
Whereas, she exhibited an interest in education and the well-being of children throughout her career; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Patricia A. Goodrich gave to this state, express their sorrow at her death and extend condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mrs. Goodrich's husband, Philo ("Bud"); and her sons Phil, Jim and John.
