1999 Senate Joint Resolution 5
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Senator Henry Dorman.
Whereas, Henry Dorman was born on September 24, 1916, in Racine, and died on November 9, 1998, in Racine; and
Whereas, Mr. Dorman graduated from William Horlick High School in Racine, received a Ph.B. in American Institutions from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1940, and earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1947; and
Whereas, during World War II, he attended Officer Candidate School at Yale University in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a communications officer; and
Whereas, Mr. Dorman practiced law in Racine from 1947 until his retirement in 1991; and
Whereas, he was a member of various legal committees and assisted in the creation of legal aid offices in the Racine County courthouse; and
Whereas, Mr. Dorman served on the Racine County Board from 1956 to 1958; and
Whereas, he served in the senate from 1965 to 1978; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature his abilities were recognized by an appointment to the joint committee on finance from 1967 to 1978, and served as cochair of this prestigious budget-making committee during the 1975 and 1977 sessions; and
Whereas, Mr. Dorman was considered one of the senate's most influential leaders; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Henry Dorman contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Dorman's wife, Jean; to his children, Robin, Wendy, Lynn and Heidi; to his sister, Ida Schmidt; and to his brother, Philip Dorman.
