Whereas, Lawrence P. Kelly was born on December 18, 1913, in Sparta, and
3died on August 23, 1999, in Milwaukee; and

Whereas, at the age of one week, Lawrence P. Kelly arrived in Cudahy, the city
5to which he would devote his life; and

Whereas, he graduated from Cudahy High School in 1932; and

Whereas, he successfully managed the Majestic and the Cudahy movie
8theaters; and

Whereas, he then turned his attention to public service and was elected in 1962
10to represent the 24th district of Milwaukee County in the Wisconsin assembly, where
11he served on the Committee on Public Welfare; and

Whereas, Lawrence P. Kelly was elected mayor of Cudahy in 1964, beginning
1324 years of devoted service in that office; and

Whereas, during that period Mayor Kelly became a well-known and beloved
15figure in Cudahy, exemplifying both open government and openness of spirit; and

1Whereas, after his retirement in 1988, Mayor Kelly remained Cudahy's chief
2booster, greeter and man about town; now, therefore be it

3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Lawrence P. Kelly as a shining example
5of public service in the best tradition of Wisconsin and mourn his passing; and, be

8resolution to Mr. Kelly's wife, Bernice, and son, James.
