ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1, TO 2001 ASSEMBLY BILL 165

AB165-ASA1,1,2 An Act to repeal and recreate 118.045 (3) of the statutes; relating to: the commencement of the school term in public schools.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB165-ASA1, s. 1 Section 1. 118.045 (3) of the statutes is repealed and recreated to read:

AB165-ASA1,1,6 118.045 (3) A school board may commence the school term before September 1 in an odd-numbered year and in the succeeding even-numbered year if all of the following apply:

AB165-ASA1,1,8 (a) At the annual meeting held in a common or union high school district in the previous even-numbered year, a public hearing is held on the issue.

AB165-ASA1,1,11 (b) If the school district is not a common or union high school district, the school board holds a public hearing on the issue after May 14 and before October 1 in the previous even-numbered year.

AB165-ASA1,2,5 (c) Following the public hearing under par. (a) or (b), but before the employment relations commission receives a notice of the commencement of contract negotiations under s. 111.70 (4) (cm) 1. for the collective bargaining agreement whose term begins in the succeeding odd-numbered year, the school board adopts a resolution to that effect.

AB165-ASA1, s. 2 Section 2. Initial applicability.

AB165-ASA1,2,8 (1) This act first applies to the commencement of the school term in the 2003-04 school year.
