The Honorable, The Legislature:
As required under Section 301.03(6r) of the Wisconsin State Statutes, I am submitting information relative to the number of prisoners that the Department of Corrections considers violent and the total number of prisoners.
On December 31, 2001 the Department had 21,521 adult inmates assigned to prisons instate and in contract facilities out of state. Out of the 21,521 inmates, 13,647 or 63.4 percent had assaultive offenses.

Department of Corrections

The Honorable, The Senate:
The Department of Corrections is pleased to provide you with its recently completed "Report to the Legislature" about the department's Pharmacological Treatment Program for Serious Child Sex Offenders. The report contains significant information about the history, development and implementation of the program.
As the report explains, the Department of Corrections encountered a number of unanticipated and complex challenges in designingand implementing this important program. Despite these significant challenges, the department has succeeded in its efforts, and the impact of the program thus far has been positive. As you will note, funding and legislative support of
S660 this and other community protection initiatives undertaken by the Department of Corrections can contribute greatly to the safety and high quality of life enjoyed by Wisconsin's citizens. We look forward to continued success in this and other innovative correctional programs.
Sincerely,
Jon E. Litscher
Secretary
