Referral of Agency Reports
State of Wisconsin
Office of Justice Assistance
Madison
September 24, 2003
To the Honorable, the Legislature:
A397 The Department of Administration is statutorily required to submit an annual report to the legislature on its efforts to improve and increase the efficiency of the integration of justice information systems. The report describes meaningful progress in the state's justice community in achieving statewide information sharing and system integration.
Justice agencies throughout Wisconsin recognize the critical importance of sharing accurate and complete information in a timely manner. Enterprise-wide information sharing improves the quality of justice and public safety by eliminating error-prone redundant data entry, provides timely access to critical information, enables information sharing without regard to time or space, and improves the consistency and reliability of information at key decision points.
The integration of justice, public safety, and other forms of governmental information systems transcends the day-to-day operational needs and priorities of justice agencies and becomes, in light of the terrorist attacks of September 11, a national security imperative. Justice information sharing, however, is needed not only to respond to threats of terrorism, but also for major incident response, natural disasters, and to support the daily operation of our justice and public safety enterprise.
I am pleased to submit to you Wisconsin's 2002-03 Annual Report on Justice Information Sharing. Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Bonnie Locke, OJA's Director of Justice Planning and Development at bonnie.locke@oja.state.wi.us or at (608) 261-6603.
Sincerely,
David Steingraber
