Whereas, Falun Dafa, also called Falun Gong, is a system to improve the mind
3and body based on the belief in universal principles of "Truthfulness, Benevolence,
4Forbearance"; it was introduced to the general public in China in 1992 by Mr. Li
5Hongzhi; and it is credited with helping people worldwide improve their health,
6mind, and body; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa is practiced by about 100 million people in over 60
8countries; and Master Li Hongzhi, founder of Falun Dafa, has been honored by
9officials all over the world with over 700 awards and honors, and is a 2-time Nobel
10Peace Prize nominee; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa was first introduced to Wisconsin in 1998 and exercise
12demonstrations and free seminars are performed on the University of
13Wisconsin-Madison campus and many other locations throughout the State of
14Wisconsin; and

1Whereas, Governor Scott McCallum issued a commendation to commend the
2practice of Falun Dafa on July 8, 2002; as did Governor Jim Doyle on May 8, 2003;

Whereas, the Chinese president Jiang Zemin started to persecute Falun Dafa
5practitioners in 1999, and since then more than 720 people are reported to have been
6killed because they practiced Falun Dafa; and

Whereas, the photo exhibition "The Journey of Falun Dafa" was held in the
8First Floor Rotunda of the Wisconsin State Capitol from July 1 to July 14 in 2002.
9It documented the evolution of Falun Dafa from a respected self-betterment practice
10in China during the early 1990's, to its growth throughout the world; now, therefore,

12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
13Wisconsin legislature call upon the government of the People's Republic of China to
14cease its persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners immediately and to release all
15Falun Dafa practitioners from detention immediately; and, be it further

16Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall forward a copy of this joint
17resolution to the Honorable Jim Doyle, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, and to the
18Honorable Yang Jiechi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Washington,
