2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 21
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: declaring March 20 to 26, 2005, as Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children Awareness Week.
Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars established the VFW National Home for Children in 1925 to care for the widows and orphans of foreign wars; and
Whereas, through the years, the VFW National Home for Children, located on 629 acres in rural Eaton Rapids, Michigan, has grown into a campus of 70 buildings, including a community center, guest lodge, chapel, 36 individual family homes, and administrative buildings; and
Whereas, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of VFW or Ladies Auxiliary members are eligible for residence at the VFW National Home for Children, either with childcare workers in the residential program or with their single parents; and
Whereas, children and families come to live at the VFW National Home for Children because of abuse, neglect, divorce, death, abandonment, or any challenge that requires intervention of such a facility; and
Whereas, these children who come from all across the United States, including Wisconsin, are nurtured there, become part of a community, and are prepared for the demands of adulthood and citizenship; and
Whereas, the VFW National Home for Children depends in part on donations to provide shelter, sustenance, and health care to the children and families of the nation's veterans; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature express appreciation for the work of the VFW National Home for Children and declare the week of March 20 to March 26, 2005, to be VFW National Home for Children Week; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to the VFW National Home for Children and to Delores Selle of Turtle Lake, President of the VFW Auxiliary for Post 828 of Clear Lake, Wisconsin.
