AB355,1,2 1An Act to amend 29.194 (1); and to create 29.194 (1m) of the statutes; relating
2to:
free resident deer hunting license for certain members of the armed forces.

Under current law, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is required to
issue a resident fishing license, a resident small game hunting license, or a resident
deer hunting license to a member of the armed forces who is in active service with
the U.S. armed forces and stationed in this state, regardless of the person's place of
residence.
This bill requires DNR to issue a resident deer hunting license, without the
payment of any fee, to a member of the armed forces who is a resident of this state,
serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces, not stationed in this state, and on
furlough or leave.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB355, s. 1 3Section 1. 29.194 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB355,2,84 29.194 (1) Certain resident licenses may be issued to students and members
5of the armed forces
. Notwithstanding ss. 29.024 (2) and 29.228 (1) (a), the

1department shall issue a resident fishing license, resident small game hunting
2license, or resident deer hunting license to a qualified student or qualified member
3of the armed forces
applying for the license. A qualified student is a person who
4exhibits proof that he or she is a registered full-time undergraduate student in
5residence at a public or private college or university located in this state and offering
6a bachelor's degree or that he or she is a citizen of a foreign country temporarily
7residing in this state while attending a high school located in this state or an
8agricultural short course at the University of Wisconsin System. A qualified

Notwithstanding ss. 29.024 (2) and 29.228 (1) (a), the department shall issue

14in this state.
AB355, s. 2 15Section 2. 29.194 (1m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB355,2,2216 29.194 (1m) Resident deer hunting license to certain members of the armed
17forces.
Notwithstanding s. 29.024 (2), the department shall issue a resident deer
18hunting license without the payment of any fee, including any processing or issuing
19fee, to a member of the armed forces applying for this license who exhibits proof that
20he or she is a resident of this state, is serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces,
21other than active duty for training purposes, is not stationed in this state, and is on
22furlough or leave from the armed forces.
