1An Act relating to: time limits for bringing an action for sexual exploitation by
2a member of the clergy.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who has been injured as the result of sexual contact
by a member of the clergy must bring an action for damages resulting from that
contact before the person reaches the age of 35. This bill allows a person who has
been injured as the result of sexual contact by a member of the clergy at any time in
the past to bring an action for damages resulting from that contact within one year
after the effective date of this bill.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

(1) Notwithstanding sections 893.05 and 893.587 of the statutes, a person who
5was injured as the result of sexual contact by a member of the clergy at any time in
6the past may bring an action under section 895.71 (2) of the statutes for all damages
1caused by that sexual contact within one year after the effective date of this
2subsection. The person injured need not show a failure to report the sexual contact
3under section 895.71 (2) (b) 1. of the statutes in order to recover under this
4subsection.
