This bill requires the governor to annually proclaim January 17 as Gulf War
Illnesses Recognition Day as a public expression in recognition of the members of the
U.S. armed forces who develop illnesses from the Gulf War. The proclamation is
required to include a request that part of the day be used for quiet contemplation to
honor those members of the U.S. armed forces.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB193, s. 1 3Section 1. 14.16 (14) of the statutes is created to read:
SB193,2,24 14.16 (14) Gulf war illnesses recognition day. The governor shall annually
5proclaim January 17 as Gulf War Illnesses Recognition Day as a public expression
6in recognition of the members of the U.S. armed forces who develop illnesses from
7exposure to Gulf War-related risk-substances. The governor shall include in the
8proclamation a request that part of the day be used for quiet contemplation to honor

1those brave members of the U.S. armed forces who suffer illnesses as the result of
2their patriotic service to our nation.
