SB591,1,2 1An Act to amend 448.60 (4) and 448.63 (1) (d) 2. of the statutes; relating to:
2podiatric medicine.

This bill redefines "podiatry" or "podiatric medicine and surgery" as the branch
or system of the practice of medicine and surgery that involves treating the sick and
specializes in conditions affecting the foot and ankle. This definition is broader than
the definition under current law, which limits podiatry or podiatric medicine and
surgery to the diagnosis and treatment of the feet and the portions of the lower leg
only insofar as they involved conditions of the feet.
The bill also increases, from 12 months to two years, the amount of
postgraduate training in a program approved by the Podiatrists Affiliated
Credentialing Board that a person must have in order to receive a credential to
practice podiatry or podiatric medicine and surgery.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

SB591,2,84 448.60 (4) "Podiatry" or "podiatric medicine and surgery" means that branch
5or system of the practice of medicine and surgery that involves treating the sick

1which is limited to the diagnosis, or mechanical, medical or surgical treatment or
2treatment by use of drugs, of the feet, but does not include amputations other than
3digits of the foot or the use of a general anesthetic unless administered by or under
4the direction of a person licensed to practice medicine and surgery under subch. II.
5Diagnosis or treatment shall include no portion of the body above the feet except that
6diagnosis and treatment shall include the tendons and muscles of the lower leg
7insofar as they shall be involved in conditions of the feet
and specializes in conditions
8affecting the foot and ankle

SB591, s. 2 9Section 2. 448.63 (1) (d) 2. of the statutes is amended to read:

11postgraduate training in a program approved by the affiliated credentialing board.
