Ninety-Eighth Regular Session
STATE OF WISCONSIN
Assembly Journal
The Assembly met in the Assembly Chamber located in the State Capitol. Pursuant to Section 13.02 of the Wisconsin Statutes and Assembly Rule 5, the Assembly was called to order by the chief clerk of the 2005-2006 session, Patrick Fuller.
The prayer was offered by Pastor Corey Sateren of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in La Crosse:
"Heavenly Father, we give You praise and thanks today that we are afforded the privilege to gather like this and for this reason. Like this because You have thus far kept us a free country to practice both politics and religion freely and openly, all the while realizing we would be at a loss if we were to practice either of them without Your Standards and You as our guide. And we praise You and give You thanks that we are afforded the privilege to gather for the reason of leaning on Your wisdom and the wisdom You give each one here to direct the affairs of this State we live in. As we know all too well, all countries do not have this privilege.
And speaking of wisdom, I'm quite certain these folks are here today embarking on a new year of decision making and opening up this Assembly in a word of prayer, to ask You for wisdom that is far above what any one of them or any group of them has on their own. So I do ask You to provide for these leaders of our State, Divine wisdom and Divine understanding and Divine discernment and Divine direction that go beyond their own, to Yours.
Also, would You protect them from making wrong decisions and guide them into making right ones according to what You and only You know about our future.
And Father, I ask that You would influence the hearts of each of the members of this Assembly to strive to put Your Kingdom principle of unity to work throughout this year. Not that they agree on everything, but that they agree to disagree and walk away, can I say "loving" each other, respecting each other as a person created in your image! That is true unity!
One last item, Father, we all ask You to continue protecting our Soldiers overseas. Supernaturally keep them from harms way. Now, by Your grace, mercy, and Divine direction allow the decisions made by this Assembly throughout 2007 to be both productive and within Your will.
As it is in Christ's name that we ask it. Amen!"
