Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his constituents in the Town of Wheatland in Kenosha County who were devastated by a tornado that struck the area on January 7, 2008. The tornado destroyed 26 homes and damaged about 100 more.
Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the area fire departments, rescue squads, state and local law enforcement agencies, volunteers, business organizations, contractors, Kenosha County officials, and Town of Wheatland representatives who dedicated their time, energy and resources to this tremendous response and clean up effort.
Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his uncle Henry Kadzielawski of Junction City, WI who passed away January 5, 2008. “Hank" along with his father instilled in him a deep appreciation for the outdoors including the recreational opportunities of hunting and fishing. He was his hunting buddy for more than 30 years as well as a frequent fishing partner. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

I was so happy to see he is interested in our government and politics. In fact, he wrote “There aren't many kids my age these days that are real interested in our government and how it works." Daniel also testified before the Joint Committee on Finance this past spring, and I hope that he will go on to become one of our Senate Scholars, and quite possible be sitting right here one day as a Wisconsin State Senator.

Senator Sullivan, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his friend, neighbor, and sister-in-law, Diane Docter of Milwaukee, who passed away from breast cancer shortly before Christmas at the age of 45. She leaves behind her husband and a daughter, his niece, who is a freshman at Pius High School. Diane was a loving mother and good friend. Her fight to maintain her health and dignity against a terrible disease was one of the most courageous efforts I have ever witnessed. Some 40,000 women in the United States will die of breast cancer this year, with 4,000 new diagnoses here in Wisconsin. I hope that in memory of Diane, and of the many other friends and loved ones facing similar challenges in all our lives, that we do all we can to one day make this disease a thing of the past.
Senator Lassa, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Edward Hinrichsen. Edward passed away this past fall. He was an avid outdoorsman and wildlife advocate. Edward could not communicate easily, but before he passed away, he wanted people to know about A.L.S., Lou Gehrig's Disease, and he hoped for more resources so that a cure can be found.
Senator Coggs, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the late Booker Townsell, a Black Milwaukee native, who was unjustly court-martialed in 1944 along with 27 other African-American soldiers of the lynching of an Italian prisoner of war. Thanks to the diligence of his family and the investigative work of a journalist, the case against Mr. Townsell and the other soldiers was recently overturned. The family and community will honor this event at with a program on January 19, 2008 in Milwaukee.
Senator Kreitlow, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Jason Zunker, a Chippewa County Sheriff's Deputy who was killed in the line of duty.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the family of Jason Scott Zunker. A Chippewa County Sheriff's Deputy, Jason died Saturday, January 5 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while in the line of duty in Woodmohr on Friday, January 4, 2008. A former 5th grade pupil of Senator Jauch's wife, Cecelia, Jason is remembered for his sense of humor and good nature. This adjournment is to honor his loving wife, Lisa Johnson; his parents Duane G. Zunker and Marlene Fae (Linden) Zunker; his grandparents Calvin and Nona Linden; and his mother-in-law Alli Johnson. Jason is a shining example of the commitment and dedication of the law enforcement community. Jason will be remembered and missed.
