2009 Assembly Joint Resolution 73
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the life of Francisco Rodriguez.
Whereas, Francisco Rodriguez was born in 1943 in Crystal City, Texas, and joined his parents in the 1950's as a seasonal migrant to Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Francisco Rodriguez was active in both the farm worker's movement Obreros Unidos (United Workers) in the late 1960's in Wisconsin and in the Chicano political movement in south central Texas; and
Whereas, Francisco Rodriguez was co-manager of Obreros Unidos' gasoline cooperative in 1968 in Wautoma, Wisconsin, as well as the first Chicano city manager of Crystal City under La Raza Unida political party in 1973; and
Whereas, Francisco Rodriguez attended both the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and, in 1974, was employed to head up the Chicano recruitment efforts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later went on to work for United Migrant Opportunity Services, Inc. (UMOS), and Jobs for Progress National, Inc. (SER), in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Francisco Rodriguez was the first Latino to hold the position of advisor on Latino affairs in the governor's office under former Governor Tony Earl; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor Francisco Rodriguez for his life of service, his activism, and his passion for migrant issues and recognize his work as a former migrant labor inspector for the Department of Workforce Development's Bureau of Migrant, Refugee and Labor Services; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to the family of Francisco Rodriguez.
