ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Jay W. Johnson.
Whereas, Jay W. Johnson was born on September 30, 1943, in Bessemer, Michigan, and died on October 17, 2009, in Bristow, Virginia; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson earned a B.A. degree from Northern Michigan University in 1965 and an M.A. degree from Michigan State University in 1970; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson was a Vietnam era veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson spent 32 years as a journalist, including serving as news anchor at WFRV-TV from 1980 to 1986 and at WLUK-TV from 1987 until his election to Congress; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and served in the 105th Congress; and
Whereas, in August 1999, Mr. Johnson was nominated as director of the U.S. Mint by President Bill Clinton and served until August 2001; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Jay W. Johnson contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Johnson's wife, JoLee.
