Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Erpenbach, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of those who were lost or seriously injured in the Janesville van crash that occurred on March 25, 1999: Peter Christman, Cory Hanson, Amber Letterman, Crystal McDaniel, Marshall Roberts, Joseph Wild, Monica Forgues, Shawn Kelly, Nicole McDougal, Amber Stankovick, Scott Tarwater, Charles Phipps, Amanda Spur, Dan Zeigler, Crystal Mahathy, James Crawford, Melissa Whitehair, Shamblin Rodriguez and Malinda Turvey. Also, a special thanks is due to Mr. Phil Ellenbecker; without his tireless work and dedication this legislation would not be possible.
S111 Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Sue Crane of Burlington, a small business owner of a dairy farm who has found time to serve on the State Fair Park Board.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the Northwestern Tigers Boys Basketball Team: Reece Bartlelt, Tyler Forsythe, Aaron Corry, Steve Perry, Mike Lindsey, Steve Tecker, Nick Lahti, Tim Follis, Kendall Abrahamzon, Jake Tokar, Lee Brown, Sam Williams, Donnie Hissa, and John Darwin; their coaches, Head Coach Dan Cowley, Assistants David Gustafson, Krag Anderson, and Joey Cowley;and their student managers Sarah Bethards and Alayna Johnson. The Northwestern Tigers remained undefeated all season until their only loss in the first round of the WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament, earning a record of 25-1. The Tigers were the only team at the State Tournament this year from North of Highway 29, and they represented their community, and the North, extremely well. We look forward to their appearance next year.
Senator Hansen, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Men's and Women's Basketball Teams for their outstanding seasons.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Maddie Kiefer, the young woman from Whitefish Bay, who died tragically of a drug overdose earlier this month. Maddie's mother died when she was little and she left Maddie and three siblings behind. Maddie suffered with an addiction to drugs and was scheduled to enter treatment right before she was left for dead in a friend's driveway. The entire Whitefish Bay community is reeling from Maddie's death, and Senator Darling hopes this tragedy teaches all of us a lesson about the dangers of drug abuse among young people.
Senator Robson, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of her Aunt Anne Biros's 90th Birthday on March 15th, and her Grandson David McLaughlin's Birthday on March 13th.
Senator Plale, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Maddie Kiefer. Senator Plale didn't know Maddie Kiefer, but she was a classmate of his son in Whitefish Bay. Although he didn't know her, he certainly learned an awful lot from her. Senator Plale thinks all of us, not just as policymakers, but parents learned an awful lot. No matter where you come from, no matter how good of a family structure you have, no matter what kind of grades you get, every child in Wisconsin is susceptible to the same fate that Maddie met. All of us as parents, all of us as community leaders, can take one thing away from Maddie, and that is that we talk to our kids, listen to our kids, get involved with our kids and make sure we know where they are and who they are with. If she taught us anything, that is something.
Senator Plale, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his son Jack, who just celebrated his 12th Birthday this past weekend.
Senator Harsdorf, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the St. Croix Valley Fusion Girls Hockey Team, who defeated Fond du Lac/Waupon 10-4 in the Girls' Hockey State Championship Game. The Fusion made history by becoming the first undefeated state champion in the eight-year history of the girls state hockey tournament, ending the season with a record of 23-0-1. The team is a cooperative program consisting of players from River Falls, Baldwin-Woodville, St. Croix Central, and Spring Valley high schools. The Fusion set a single game tournament record for most goals (12), assists (16), and points (28), and tied the record for most power play goals (4). The Fusion defeated defending champion, Mosinee, 2-1 in double overtime in the semifinal.
Senator Lehman, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the Racine St. Catherines' Angels, who knocked off La Crosse Aquinas 48-34 on Saturday giving the Angels their 4th Division 3 WIAA State Championship in the last four years. This was Coach Bob Letsch's 30th season as Coach of the program and his 7th State Championship since becoming St. Catherines' coach in 1979.
Senator Lehman, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Racine Horlick, who had one of their most successful seasons ever. They were 24-2 before the tournament and did not lose to a team from Wisconsin until the championship game. Coach Jason Treutelaar won his 100th game at the school in the semifinal on Friday. They brought home a silver basketball from the Division 1 WIAA State Tournament, to go with the ones from 1930 and 1985. Unfortunately, they lost the first place title to Madison Memorial, 56-41, on Saturday evening.
Senator Lehman, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Miss Wisconsin, Briana Lipor, who is addressing the Assembly this morning. She is a fine representation of the beautiful, intelligent, and talented youth Racine has produced.
Senator Kanavas, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the Waukesha West Academic Decathlon Team, on winning its 8th straight State Championship, earning them a trip to the national competition.

The team includes: Brittney Miilu, Sarah Sandquist, Lauren Stepanik, Stacy Miller and Melissa Sandquist; and is coached by Jim Wendling and Kelly Derrick. Congratulations on a great season.
