AB75, s. 2818 8Section 2818 . 341.14 (6r) (c) of the statutes, as affected by 2009 Wisconsin Act

AB75,1433,810 341.14 (6r) (c) Special group plates shall display the word "Wisconsin", the
11name of the applicable authorized special group, a symbol representing the special
12group, not exceeding one position, and identifying letters or numbers or both, not
13exceeding 6 positions and not less than one position. The department shall specify
14the design for special group plates, but the department shall consult the president
15of the University of Wisconsin System before specifying the word or symbol used to
16identify the special groups under par. (f) 35. to 47., the secretary of natural resources
17before specifying the word or symbol used to identify the special group groups under
18par. (f) 50. and 59., the chief executive officer of the professional football team and
19an authorized representative of the league of professional football teams described
20in s. 229.823 to which that team belongs before specifying the design for the
21applicable special group plate under par. (f) 55., the department of veterans affairs
22before specifying the design for the special group plates under par. (f) 49d., 49h., and
2349s., and the department of tourism and chief executive officer of the organization
24specified in par. (f) 55m. before specifying the design and word or symbol used to
25identify the special group name for special group plates under par. (f) 55m. Special

1group plates under par. (f) 50. shall be as similar as possible to regular registration
2plates in color and design. The department shall make available 2 designs for the
3special group plates under par. (f) 60. The department may not specify any design
4for the special group plates under par. (f) 60. unless the design is approved by the
5executive vice president of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club LP. The word or
6symbol used to identify the special group under par. (f) 59. shall be different from the
7word or symbol used to identify the special group under par. (f) 50. and the design
8shall cover the entire plate.

16authorized special group during a year that is not a plate issuance year, the
17individual shall dispose of the special plates plate in a manner prescribed by the
18department. This paragraph does not apply to plates a plate issued to the surviving
19spouse of a fire fighter who died in the line of duty.
AB75,1435,2520 2. If an individual in possession of a special plates plate under par. (f) 33., 34.,
21or 48. or of a personalized plates plate under s. 341.145 (1) (c) of the same color and
22design as a special plates plate under par. (f) 33., 34., or 48. suffers an injury in the
23course of his or her job duties as a fire fighter, rescue squad member, or emergency
24medical technician and the injury prevents the individual from subsequently
25performing such job duties, the individual may retain these this special plates plate.

AB75,1437,2 12341.142 Veterans honorary medal decals. If any person who is registering
13or has registered a vehicle specified in s. 341.14 (6r) (b) 1. submits a statement from
14the U.S. department of veterans affairs certifying to the department that the person
15has been awarded a medal authorized under an act of congress relating to that
16person's service in the U.S. armed forces, as defined in s. 40.02 (57m), the department
17shall, free of charge, procure, issue and deliver to that veteran one decal, similar in
18appearance to the medal awarded to that veteran, for each motor vehicle registered
19in the name of that veteran. Notwithstanding s. 341.61 (3), a decal issued under this
20section shall be displayed in the manner directed by the department on the rear
21registration plate of the vehicle registered in the name of the veteran to whom the
22decal was issued. The department shall specify one combination of colors and design
23for each medal authorized under an act of congress for which a statement has been
24received by the department under this section, except that the department may not
25specify the colors or design unless the colors and design are approved in writing by

1the state department of veterans affairs. Not more than one decal may be issued
2under this section for each motor vehicle registered in the name of a veteran.

5(1) (a), (c) or (j) or (2) or 341.26 (3) (a) 2. or (am), the applicant for a personalized
6registration plate issued on an annual basis shall pay a fee of $15 for the issuance
7of the plate and $15 in each succeeding year to maintain the plate. In addition to the
8regular application fee provided under s. 341.25 (1) (b) or 341.26 (3) (a) 1., the
9applicant for a personalized registration plate issued on a biennial basis shall pay
10a fee of $30 for issuance of the plate if the plate is issued during the first year of the
11biennial registration period or $15 for issuance of the plate if the plate is issued
12during the 2nd year of the biennial registration period. The fee to maintain a
13personalized plate issued on a biennial basis is $30. The fee for reissuance of a
14personalized plate shall be $15 for an annual registration and $30 for a biennial
15registration. An applicant for a personalized plates plate issued under sub. (1) (b)
16or (c) shall not be required to pay the fee for initial issuance of the plates plate.

AB75,1438,2318 341.145 (7) The department may refuse to issue any combination of letters or
19numbers, or both, which may carry connotations offensive to good taste or decency,
20or which would be misleading, or in conflict with the issuance of any other
21registration plates plate. All decisions of the department with respect to
22personalized registration plate applications shall be final and not subject to judicial
23review under ch. 227.

2personalized registration plates plate issued which contain contains any
3combination of letters or numbers, or both, which the department determines may
4carry connotations offensive to good taste and decency or which may be misleading.
5Any person ordered to return such plates a plate under this subsection shall either
6be reimbursed for any additional fees they paid for the plates plate for the
7registration year in which they are recalled, or be given at no additional cost a
8replacement personalized registration plates plate, the issuance of which is in
9compliance with the statutes. A person who fails to return a personalized
10registration plates plate upon request of the department may be required to forfeit
11not more than $200.

2display a registration decal or tag and the remaining plate must comply with the
3requirements of sub. (1).

8of the vehicle to which the plate is attached shall apply to the department for a
9replacement. Except as provided in sub. (2m), upon receipt of satisfactory proof of
10illegibility, and upon payment of a fee of $2 for each the plate, the department shall
11issue a replacement. Upon receipt of a replacement plate, the applicant shall destroy
12the illegible plate.
AB75, s. 2848 13Section 2848. 341.16 (2m) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1441,2014 341.16 (2m) Upon request therefor and payment of a fee of $10, the department
15may issue an applicant for a replacement plates plate for an automobile registered
16pursuant to the registration system under s. 341.27 a registration plates plate of the
17design specified in s. 341.13 for the plate issuance cycle next succeeding the cycle
18under which the original plates were plate was issued. The department may limit
19the receipt of requests under this subsection to applicants for a renewal registration
20of a motor vehicle.

23new number and issue a new plate rather than a duplicate of the original if in its

AB75, s. 2853 7Section 2853. 341.265 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1442,198 341.265 (1) Any person who is a resident of this state and the owner or
9subsequent transferee of a motor vehicle which has a model year of 1945 or earlier
10and which has not been altered or modified from the original manufacturer's
11specifications may upon application register the same as an antique vehicle upon
12payment of a fee of $5, and be furnished a registration plates plate of a distinctive
13design, in lieu of the usual registration plates plate, which shall show in addition to
14the registration number that the vehicle is an antique. The registration shall be
15valid while the vehicle is owned by the applicant without the payment of any
16additional fee. The vehicle shall only be used for special occasions such as display
17and parade purposes or for necessary testing, maintenance and storage purposes.
18A motorcycle may be registered as an antique vehicle if all of the requirements for
19registration specified in this subsection are satisfied.
AB75, s. 2854 20Section 2854. 341.265 (1m) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1442,2521 341.265 (1m) A person who registers an antique motor vehicle under sub. (1)
22may furnish and display on the vehicle a historical plate from or representing the
23model year of the vehicle if the registration and plates plate issued by the department
24are simultaneously carried in or, with respect to an antique motorcycle, with the
25vehicle and are available for inspection.

1Section 2855. 341.266 (2) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1443,82 341.266 (2) (a) Any person who is the owner of a special interest vehicle that
3is 20 or more years old at the time of making application for registration or transfer
4of title of the vehicle and who, unless the owner is an historical society that is exempt
5from federal income taxes, owns, has registered in this state, and uses for regular
6transportation at least one vehicle that has a regular registration plates plate may
7upon application register the vehicle as a special interest vehicle upon payment of
8a fee under par. (b).
AB75, s. 2856 9Section 2856. 341.266 (2) (c) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1443,1410 341.266 (2) (c) The department shall furnish the owner of the vehicle with a
11registration plates plate of a distinctive design in lieu of the usual registration plates
12plate, and those plates that plate shall show that the vehicle is a special interest
13vehicle owned by a Wisconsin collector. Upon application, the owner may reregister
14the vehicle without the payment of any additional fee.
AB75, s. 2857 15Section 2857. 341.266 (2) (d) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB75,1443,2016 341.266 (2) (d) Each collector applying for a special interest vehicle registration
17plates plate will be issued a collector's identification number which will appear on
18each the plate. Second and all subsequent registrations under this section by the
19same collector will bear the same collector's identification number followed by a
20suffix letter for vehicle identification.

23may be operated upon any highway of this state during the month of January unless

2plates plate or transfers a regular registration plates plate to the vehicle.

5time only) processing fee of $50 to defray the cost of issuing the original collector's
