Whereas, John D. "Jack" Steinhilber was born on September 14, 1931, in
3Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and died on May 14, 2009, in Oshkosh; and

Whereas, Jack earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of
5Law in 1955, and following his admission to the State Bar, Jack began practicing law
6in Oshkosh; and

Whereas, Jack was elected to the position of district attorney for Winnebago
8County and served from 1957 to 1964; and

Whereas, Jack represented his Fox Valley area constituents in Madison as a
10state legislator, having been elected first to the state assembly, in 1966, and later to
11the state senate, in 1970, where he rose to the position of assistant majority leader;

Whereas, Jack loved politics and was a proud member of the Republican Party,
14and served as the chairman of Wisconsin Citizens for Reagan in 1976; and

1Whereas, Jack served his community in multiple capacities, as a founding
2director of the West Side Association and as a member of the Oshkosh Chamber of
3Commerce, Oshkosh Downtown Rotary, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh;

Whereas, Jack received recognition for his service to the Fox Valley area with
6the Distinguished Alumni Award from Oshkosh West High School in 2001; now,
7therefore, be it

8Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature do commend the devoted public service that John D. "Jack"
10Steinhilber contributed to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
11extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

12Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
13resolution to Jack's widow, Gail, and three children, Jack Jr. "J.D.," Jennifer
14Manzler, and Leslie Falls.
