Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Schultz, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in memory of a former member of this body and Senator Schultz's mentor and predecessor, former state Senator Richard Kreul, who passed away last week at the age of 86. Senator Kreul was first elected to the state Senate in 1978 and served until he was appointed to the Department of Labor and Human Relations by former Governor Tommy Thompson in 1991. Senator Kreul was a long time and successful farmer who loved his community, his church and his God. He gave back through being a brother Mason and Shriner. He also served on the Fennimore school board for 26 years; the last ten as president. In later years, he and his wife Ann owned and operated an antique shop. On behalf of this body Senator Schultz would like to extend our thoughts and sympathies to Senator Kruel's family. Senator Kruel was a great friend and teacher. With his Will Roger's type demeanor, he always knew just what to say. So in true fashion, perhaps he's best summed up in his own words, which were posted on a plaque at his visitation Monday. While he was proud to be a Republican, Senator Kruel always preached bipartisanship. So, his words were perhaps never more appropriate, needed and appreciated. He said, "I have been in this business a long time. I've been cussed and discussed, boycotted, talked about, lied about, lied to, hung up, held up, and robbed. The only reason I'm staying in this business now is to see what the hell is going to happen next." Senator, you'll be deeply missed.
