2011 - 2012 LEGISLATURE
December 2, 2011 - Introduced by Representatives E. Coggs, Berceau, Turner and
Young. Referred to Committee on Rules.
AJR81,1,1 1Relating to: women's reproductive rights.
AJR81,1,42 Whereas, the basic right of all women to decide freely on issues of childbearing
3and sexual and reproductive health without threat of coercion, violence, or
4discrimination is a safeguard that must be protected; and
AJR81,1,65 Whereas, women comprise fifty-two percent of the United States' population
6but bear the sole responsibility for childbearing; and
AJR81,1,87 Whereas, women who plan their pregnancies are more likely to seek prenatal
8care, improving their own health and the health of their children; and
AJR81,1,129 Whereas, it is obvious that politics is a key arena for the fight to protect and
10expand reproductive rights for women both in Wisconsin and the nation, and merely
11electing more women or more "good" politicians is simply not enough to ensure this
12necessary commitment; and
AJR81,1,1413 Whereas, reproductive health is a component of overall health, throughout the
14life cycle, for both men and women; and
1Whereas, reproductive decision-making, including voluntary choice in
2marriage, family formation, and determination of the number, timing, and spacing
3of one's children rests with the ability to have access to the information and means
4needed to exercise voluntary choice; and
AJR81,2,85 Whereas, a majority of American voters believe that matters related to women's
6reproductive rights, including contraception and abortion, are personal issues that
7should be decided by women and their families, health care providers, and clergy
8members; and
AJR81,2,139 Whereas, supporters of women's reproductive rights include the American
10College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Planned Parenthood, National
11Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice, Center for Reproductive Rights, and
12the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, just to mention
13a very few; now, therefore, be it
AJR81,2,15 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
15legislature supports women's reproductive rights.
