2013 Assembly Joint Resolution 65
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending the career of Donald Driver.
Whereas, Donald Driver overcame countless obstacles throughout his childhood to become one of the most durable and consistently productive receivers in the National Football League; and
Whereas, during his 14-year career, Donald was named to four Pro Bowl teams and will retire as the Packers' all-time leader in receptions (743) and receiving yards (10,137), is third in franchise history with 61 receiving touchdowns, and had seven 81,000-yard seasons, also a Packers record for a receiver; and
Whereas, Donald was chosen with the 213th pick in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL draft out of Alcorn State University in Mississippi, where he lettered in both football and track and field; and
Whereas, Donald has been very active off the field throughout his career, making over 300 charitable appearances since his rookie season in 1999, and in the spring of 2001, Donald and his wife Betina created the Donald Driver Foundation, which strives to end homelessness through education and donates to a variety of local charities in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Houston, Texas; and
Whereas, in 2001, Donald was awarded the Community Service Award by the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his outstanding community involvement, and in 2005 he was awarded the Ed Block Courage award by his Green Bay teammates; and
Whereas, Donald is also the author of three children's books, based on Donald's bedtime storytelling to his three children, that are sold statewide in Wisconsin with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Donald Driver Foundation; and
Whereas, Donald has been a co-host of the show "Inside the Huddle with Donald Driver" since 2004, and in May 2012, he won the fourteenth season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars"; and
Whereas, Donald is one of the classiest individuals to ever put on an NFL uniform and his tremendous work ethic, selflessness, and dedication to Packer Nation will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin recognizes and salutes Donald Driver on his remarkable career with the Green Bay Packers; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Donald Driver.
