Dear Chief Clerk Fuller:
I am writing to request that an entry be placed in the Assembly Journal to clarify and correct my position and voting intention in regards to Assembly Bill 409.
On Thursday, January 23rd, the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice held an Executive Session and passed out of committee Assembly Bill 409. In committee, I voted in favor of this legislation. Following the hearing, I learned that information I was provided on the intentions and policy changes in the substitute amendment offered by Representative Garey Bies was incorrect. Immediately after learning this, I spoke with the committee chairman, Representative Joel Kleefisch, and requested that my vote be changed from a yay to a nay. I would have voted nay on the substitute amendment and passage of the bill.
I was originally told by the chairman’s office that I could change my vote, but was later informed that I could not. I respectfully request that an entry be made clarifying my intentions that had I been given correct information, I would have voted nay on the substitute amendment and passage of Assembly Bill 409 as amended.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
EVAN GOYKE
State Representative
