Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Miller, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the great state of Minnesota which today became the 12th state in America to recognize marriage equality for all its residents regardless of their sexual orientation. The great arc of history is to expand the boundaries of personal choice and freedom. Our creator made human beings in many colors and abilities. Love is a powerful emotion that includes all of humanity regardless of station or sexual orientation. If the state allows the benefits of marriage to two persons of opposite sex who vow to love and cherish each other in a lifetime commitment, it should allow the same freedom to two persons of the same sex. Wisconsin will eventually recognized marriage equality. His hope and prayer is that we will do it soon.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the state and local firefighters and volunteers who are working to control the wildfire in Northern Wisconsin.
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of the community of LaFarge, the families and employees affected by the fire at the Organic Valley plant.
Senator Harsdorf, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Allyce Lindahl, who job shadowed the Senator today. Allyce is a student at Marquette University studying political science and Spanish. She is here spending the day learning more about the legislative process.

Senator Lassa, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of two of her daughters who will be celebrating their birthdays during the next couple of weeks. Lily Moe will be 2 years old on May 15 and Madison Moe will be 6 years old on June 1.

Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Kerrie Kedzie’s uncle, Colonel Robert Emmett Blaschke. Colonel Blaschke served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II from 1943 to 1947. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Colonel in 1966. Colonel Blaschke passed away on April 26, 2013 at the age of 90.
Senator Erpenbach, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of a very special Boy Scout from New Glarus. Ashton Crouch is achieving the highest honor Scouts offer with his Eagle Scout court of Honor on June 1st. This is an amazing achievement and one that is not attained by many. However, that is not what makes Ashton truly exceptional. Putting his Scouting skills to work, Ashton has saved the lives of 2 people. In 2006, he saved the life of a girl who fell through the ice on Lake Montesian, knowing just what to do to rescue her safely. Again in 2012, Ashton knew what to do and acted immediately when a woman was crushed under bleacher materials at an outdoor event. While she sustained a skull fracture, Ashton’s actions likely saved her life. It is not every day we cross paths with such an amazing young person so willing to step up to help others. Senator Erpenbach thanks Ashton.
