Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under Special Privilege
Senator Erpenbach, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Senator Cullen, who has announced that we will not be seeking reelection. He will be sorely missed.
Senator Lehman, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Colonel Hans Christian Heg, who fell at the Battle of Chickamauga 150 years ago, September 19, 1863, at the age of 33. His statue of honor greets people at the East Wing of the State Capitol. He is also so honored by monuments in his native Norway and in Racine county, town of Norway.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Christine Sikora, who passed away recently. She was a mother and a wonderful artist in Kenosha who had we work displayed in Milwaukee and Kenosha. She will be greatly missed.
Senator Gudex, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Schreiner’s Restaurant of Fond du Lac, a successful family owned business. Founded in 1938, Schreiner’s is known for freshly prepared good in a clean and friendly environment. 500,000 guests per year travel from all over Wisconsin and beyond to enjoy fresh bakery products and homemade soups and entrees. Congratulations Schreiner’s Restaurant on 75 years of business.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Vicki Swanson, who is retiring as being the clerk for the city of Washburn for 40 years. Vicki help assure that each election was conducted in a good matter and that every citizen has access. She also ensured that were fraud free and that the integrity of the election process had been served well. Senator Jauch would like to thank her for setting the standard for representing the best of Wisconsin government and local government.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Eric Peterson, her chief of staff for nearly 7 years. Eric served the 4th Senate District, this legislature, and the caucus tremendously, and Senator Taylor is truly honored that he worked with her.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of former County Supervisor James White, who recently passed away. James was a mentor for so many. He’s left a model in the community for how organizations can collaborate with others to be stronger and how to rebuild them and how to make them better than they were.
Senator Harris, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Reverend James White. He left a legacy as a man of stature and a man with integrity. He displayed his brilliance in a community with young people.
Senator Harris, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn it do so in honor of Mario Hall, who recently passed away. Mario was a young man with 2 young children. He will be truly, deeply missed in our community because he will leave behind a great legacy.
Senator Harris, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Chester Floyd Albright Sr., who is the father of Sheila B. Cochran, who also is an amazing woman in Milwaukee.
Senator Jauch, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Barb Cullen, Senator Cullen’s wife. She, like all of the spouses, endure a tremendous amount of sacrifice and give a requirement that they fulfill the obligation to parenthood while Senators tend to the responsibilities to the public.
Senator Taylor, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Senator Cullen, who will be sorely missed. He brings an attitude of trying to work together and brings a sense of reason and practicality.
Senator Kedzie, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of his mother, Arlene Kedzie, who celebrated her 82nd birthday on September 7, 2013.
Senator Carpenter, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of Esther Hussey. The Southside of Milwaukee has lost a tireless advocate for seniors and worker’s rights. Esther attended almost every town hall Senator Carpenter has had over the last 28 years and organized town halls at OASIS Senior Center each month and made sure elected officials attended. Esther founded the Senior Warriors who fought for SeniorCare, getting a stoplight near senior housing, and protecting seniors’ rights. She was 87 when she passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 and will be greatly missed by many.
Senator Carpenter, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of John Acker. Mr. Acker was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of Heil Co., a member of United Steelworkers #1344, a member of Old Time Ball Players Association and a member of Milwaukee County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the age of 95.
Ted Blazel and the Senate Sergeant at Arms’ office, with unanimous consent, asked that when the Senate adjourn, it do so in honor of their co-worker and friend Jacob Clark. Jacob died on September 16, 2013. Jacob worked for the Sergeant’s office for seven years, celebrating his anniversary on September 11, 2013. Jacob was a dedicated employee whose service to the Senate will be missed. Jacob was quick with a joke, a smile, or a helping hand for all. Jacob was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and was a decorated soldier who had served two tours of duty overseas, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. Jacob loved working with the pages and serving his country with the brave men and women of the Army, but his most cherished moments were with his three boys: Mark, Cyrus, and Louis. Jacob loved spending time with people and making them laugh. Jacob counted his wealth in the relationships that he made with others and will be missed by all who knew him.
