AB455,1,2 1An Act to create 46.48 (32) of the statutes; relating to: grants to counties to
2contract for peer-run respite centers and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Health Services (DHS) to award grants to
counties to contract with peer-run organizations to establish peer-run respite
centers for individuals experiencing mental health conditions or substance abuse.
The total amount of general purpose revenue appropriated to be awarded as grants
is $250,000 under the bill. For each grant awarded, DHS shall award the county an
amount that is one-half the amount the county provides to contract with the
peer-run organization to establish peer-run respite centers.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB455,1 3Section 1. 46.48 (32) of the statutes is created to read:
AB455,2,34 46.48 (32) Peer-run respite center contracts. The department shall award
5grants to counties to contract with a peer-run organization to establish peer-run
6respite centers for individuals experiencing mental health conditions or substance

1abuse. The department shall award a grant under this subsection in an amount
2equal to one-half the amount of money the county provides to contract with a
3peer-run organization to establish peer-run respite centers.
AB455,2 4Section 2. Fiscal changes.
AB455,2,155 (1) Peer-run respite center contracts. In the schedule under section 20.005
6(3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of health services under
7section 20.435 (5) (bc) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 2013, the dollar
8amount is increased by $125,000 for the first fiscal year of the fiscal biennium in
9which this subsection takes effect to provide grants to counties to contract with
10peer-run organizations to establish peer-run respite centers. In the schedule under
11section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of health
12services under section 20.435 (5) (bc) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 2013,
13the dollar amount is increased by $125,000 for the second fiscal year of the fiscal
14biennium in which this subsection takes effect to provide grants to counties to
15contract with peer-run organizations to establish peer-run respite centers.
