AJR106,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum.

AJR106,1,3 Whereas, Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum passed away suddenly in his sleep on January 10, 2014, at the age of 67; and

AJR106,1,5 Whereas, Martin was the beloved husband of Maureen Rosenblum and the cherished father of Sarah Terez Rosenblum and Molly Dvora Rosenblum; and

AJR106,1,7 Whereas, Martin spent his teenage years in a prodigy program at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, studying classical music; and

AJR106,1,10 Whereas, Martin was an Appleton, Wisconsin, native who earned a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an M.A. in Creative Writing and a Ph.D. in literature from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and

AJR106,1,13 Whereas, Martin served at UW-Milwaukee for over thirty years, teaching poetry, creative writing, and music courses to thousands of students during that time; and

AJR106,1,14 Whereas, Martin was fondly known as "Dr. Rock and Roll"; and

AJR106,2,3 Whereas, Martin was the founder and creator of the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Certificate Program in Rock and Roll Studies, the only one of its kind in the United States; and

AJR106,2,6 Whereas, Martin was an established, internationally recognized singer-songwriter, poet, and musician who recorded more than a dozen CDs of original songs and authored more than twenty books of poetry; and

AJR106,2,9 Whereas, Martin was a recording artist on the Rounder Records label, a Gibson Guitars performing artist, the historian emeritus for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and the historian for Les Paul's House of Sound at Discovery World; and

AJR106,2,11 Whereas, Martin wrote Harley-inspired poetry under the name "the Holy Ranger," an alter ego that attracted a cult following among riders; and

AJR106,2,14 Whereas, Martin was the recipient of two Wisconsin Area Music Industry awards for Alternative Artist and Rock Journalist, identifying him as both artist and scholar; and

AJR106,2,17 Whereas, Martin won the Shepherd Express Reader's Choice Award for Best Poet of the Year and was featured in Peter Jennings's ABC series "The Century," discussing rock and roll history; now, therefore, be it

AJR106,2,21 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life and public service of Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum, mourn his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends.
