ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
Whereas, the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War spanned many decades, regular combat troops began to be deployed in 1965, and the war officially ended on April 30, 1975; and
Whereas, more than 3 million Americans served in Vietnam and 58,000 Americans were killed in the conflict; and
Whereas, 165,400 residents of Wisconsin served during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, 1,239 Wisconsin residents were killed serving their country and are listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, the current Wisconsin population of Vietnam veterans is estimated at 140,064 people; and
Whereas,
2009 Wisconsin Act 36 designated March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Wisconsin to recall the Vietnam veterans' accomplishments and to thank those veterans for their service during that war; and
Whereas, May 28, 2012, through November 11, 2025, has been proclaimed as the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War to honor Vietnam veterans, the fallen, the wounded, those unaccounted for, former prisoners of war, their families, and all who served; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That March 29, 2015, through November 11, 2025, shall be proclaimed the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War in the state of Wisconsin, and the legislature encourages residents of the state to take part in ceremonies and events honoring Vietnam veterans.
