Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under
Special Privilege
Senator Harris Dodd, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the 30th Street Industrial Corridor Corporation and the participants of the 2015 Unite Milwaukee Summit, an anti-violence summit she co-hosted. The 30th Street Industrial Corridor Corporation is a non-profit who works with businesses in Milwaukee to create jobs for community members. Over 150 community neighbors, organizations, and activists came together to brainstorm solutions to violence in their neighborhoods. They were inspiring. They were individuals from every walk of life, every age, every race, and every background. They understood that solutions to violence start on every block and in every neighborhood. Senator Harris Dodd thanks them for their participation in the summit and looks forward to working with them in the coming months to make Milwaukee safer for their children.
Senator Harris Dodd, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of three precious lives that were lost to violence over the last year in Milwaukee: Sierra Guyton, Laylah Petersen, and Bill Thao. 10 year-old Sierra was caught in the crossfire on a playground last May and lost her life. Laylah, at the young age of 5, was fatally shot in November while sitting on her grandfather’s lap. Bill Thao was only 13 months old when he lost his life after bullets were fired into his home this past December. These children should not have died, and Senator Harris Dodd believes it is up to each and every one in this State Capitol to ensure that senseless violence does not take the lives of more children in our state. Her heart goes out to the families and loved ones of these precious children, who were taken prematurely from their families and this world before their time.
Senator Ringhand, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Whitewater Girls Basketball team who went undefeated and won the Division 3 State Championship over the weekend.
Senator Vukmir, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of two Milwaukee area high school girls basketball teams that brought home state titles this past weekend. Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 state championship over formerly unbeaten D.C. Everest by a score of 64-29. It is Divine Savior’s first state title. The Pius XI Lady Popes were crowned the state champions of Division 2 with a convincing 54-36 win over Cedarburg. It’s the Lady Popes’ second state title, having won the Division 1 championship in 2010. Congratulations to all of these young female student-athletes. Your hard work and determination has helped your dreams come dream and given you memories that will last a lifetime.
Senator Wirch, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of a legend in Kenosha, Ralph Tenuta.  His father started Tenuta’s Delicatessen and Ralph runs it today with his son Chris.  It is a family business that has been very successful competing with the big stores.  They have Italian specialties and the famous have been through there.  Rep. Paul Ryan brought President George W. Bush down 52nd Street and stopped at Tenuta’s.  Governors, Archbishops, local politicians have all stopped there and Ralph invites them to have a little something to eat in the back room when they come by.  He is truly an example of how to run a small business.  He has time for everyone who comes in to store, the old world charm of meeting with people and remembering their children who used to work there.  It is an honor to adjourn in honor of whom quite frankly might be the most popular person in Kenosha, Ralph Tenuta.
Senator Harsdorf, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Grace Nielson who is job shadowing her today.
