Senator Vukmir, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor Dan Vrakas, who is retiring as Waukesha County Executive, where he served more than 9 years. Dan had a track record of holding the line on county spending and was a strong advocate for economic development. Prior to becoming Waukesha County Executive, Dan was elected to serve in the Wisconsin State Legislature, where he represented the 33rd Assembly District for 15 years and also served as the Assembly’s Majority Caucus Chairman. Dan has been a very successful business owner and is the former owner of Paul’s Metropolitan Restaurant in Waukesha. Dan has been a member of numerous community and non-profit organizations and has spent much of his time volunteering for a variety of causes.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Wilmot Union High School Academic Decathlon Team and their advisor Don Serkowski. The team was recently crowned National Champions at the United States Academic Decathlon Division II competition held in California over this past weekend. In the 13 years of having a team, Wilmot Union High School has been to the State Championships 11 times. This is their second consecutive year at nationals, and their first national title. Senator Wanggaard asked that his colleagues join him in honoring and celebrating the hard work and dedication of these young individuals in their pursuit of knowledge and wish them luck on their future endeavors.

Senator Harris Dodd, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the individuals who have lost their lives to violence and tragedy in Milwaukee over the last several weeks. Her community has been shaken by the tragic deaths of their neighbors and loved ones, and the city is trying to pick up the broken pieces of the lives that they have lost and to heal from the heartache that their deaths bring; 17-year old Shaniece McClain, who was the innocent bystander in a shooting, 15-year old Rasheed Chiles, who was shot by a stray bullet and his 2-year old brother, Damani Terry, who lost his life that same day after being struck by a van, and 41-year old Archie Brown, Jr., who was the victim of vigilante crime. Senator Harris Dodd wants to also adjourn in the honor of the dozens of men and women that have lost their lives this year.
