Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under
Special Privilege
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Enrique Camarena, a drug enforcement agent who was killed in 1985 by drug traffickers in Mexico. In response to his death, angered parents across the country began wearing red ribbons to symbolize their commitment to being healthy and drug free. In 1988, the National Family Partnership sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Week. The red ribbon began as a symbol of hope for people taking a stand against illegal drugs, and today it still stands as a symbol of Enrique’s belief that one person can make a difference in the fight against drugs. In order to rebrand the commitment to drug free schools, Greater Kenosha Community Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Awareness Committee held a slogan contest. “Being Drug Free…Oh the Possibilities!”
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Carson Doty, a Randall Consolidated School student at the time who now attends Wilmot High School, who submitted the county-wide award winning entry.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Randall Consolidated School, who held the Red Ribbon Week Opening Ceremony on Monday.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Julia Keeran, a 5th grader at Fratt Elementary School and also the Senator’s grand-niece. She ran for treasurer and was elected with what he’s sure was an overwhelming majority. Fine job Julia.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Lt. Scott Schumacher, who is posthumously being awarded the Hometown Hero Award in the Assembly today. Lt. Schumacher’s death earlier this year was from cancer due to carcinogen exposure during execution of emergency duties while on incidents with the Kenosha Fire Department. During his 16 years of service, Schumacher executed multiple rescues and received several commendations for lifesaving and heroism.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor and memory of U.S. Air Force Senior Airman, Quinn Johnson-Harris. Johnson-Harris lost his life on October 2nd when the cargo plane he was aboard crashed just after takeoff in Afghanistan. During this difficult time, Senator Darling asks that we keep our thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. A visitation will be held for Johnson-Harris on Saturday, October 24th from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Christian Faith Fellowship on Good Hope Road in Milwaukee.
Senator Lassa, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in memory of Rosemary “Ro” Niespodziani. Rosemary passed away September 18, 2015 in Stevens Point, WI. She was 64 years old. Rosemary worked for the Wisconsin Senate for 28 years as Deputy Sergeant at Arms. Ro will be deeply missed by her loving family, brothers: James & Ellyn, Thomas & Marlene, Edward & Kathryn, John & Robin, and her sisters Bernadette “Bernie”, and Margaret “Marge” & Kurt, very special friend Larry Peters, and her many dear friends. Rosemary was a very loving Aunt to her nieces and nephews, who were her world. Rosemary was so very proud of her family and relished time spent together. Rosemary had a passion for travel and did so with her family and friends through the years. Rosemary touched so many lives along her journey in every aspect of life.

He then returned to Milwaukee where his assignments included assistant pastor for several parishes. In 1979 Pope John Paul II named Bishop Fliss coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Superior. In 1985 he began the ninth bishop of the diocese. He retired in 2007 upon reaching the mandatory age limit. During his nearly 26 years as Bishop he guided the Diocese through many changes. He will be remembered as brilliant, humble and compassionate.
