Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under
Special Privilege
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of Vance Wilks of Waterford. Two years ago, when Vance was only 7 years old, he was hospitalized experiencing seizures. While in the hospital, doctors discovered a benign tumor in Vance’s brain. Like any young child, he wanted to play and be active bt he felt the neurology wing, where he stayed, was lacking toys and other things for kids to do. Unlike the other children, he had an idea that could fix this problem and help the children and the hospital. Vance, with the help of his parents, set up a toy drive at Browns Lake Golf Course in Burlington, dubbing it “Vance’s Toy Voyage.” In its first year, Vance received more than 400 toys and $800 for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. Last fall doctors learned that the tumor was recurring and that another surgery would be necessary. Despite this, Vance conducted their second annual toy drive that raised at least 600 toys and $500. Because of Vance’s work, any stress a child may feel being in the hospital may now be relieved playing with the countless toys and the other things that may be offered for the children to do. Vance is truly a hero to the children of the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
Senator Wanggaard, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of his son John Jensen’s birthday. It is a blessing to have him as a son. John, Happy Birth-week!
