Announcements, Adjournment Honors, and Remarks Under
Special Privilege
Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of all of the clerks, poll workers, and volunteers for their work in today’s primaries.
Senator Ringhand, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her intern, Holly Gulledge, who turned 21 today.
Senator Bewley, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the Most Reverend James Patrick Powers, who will be ordinated and installed as the eleventh Bishop of Superior on February 18th. Bishop-designate Powers grew up on his’s family’s farm in Baldwin, Wisconsin. He worked on the farm and sold insurance before entering the seminary. He was ordained a priest of the Superior Diocese in 1990. His pastoral assignments included Rice Lake, River Falls, Solon Falls, Minong and Gordon. Most recently Rev. Powers served as diocesan administrator.
The Diocese of Superior includes 16 counties, with a total population of 438,107, about 16 percent are Catholic. Senator Bewley wishes the very best to Bishop Powers and the parishioners of the Diocese of Superior.
Senator Darling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of her grandson, Charlie, who turned 10.
Senator Marklein, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of memory of Diego, a Grant County Sheriff’s Department K-9 officer, who recently died unexpectedly. Diego was honored at a Memorial ceremony last week that was attended by law enforcement and K-9 officers throughout southern Wisconsin. Diego’s handler, Deputy Ric Hottenstein, was recognized for his service with Diego. Diego, a drug sniffing dog, was deployed 1,094 times. He assisted with 355 arrests, and 17 apprehensions in the fight against drugs. Deputy Hottenstein and Diego participated in 585 hours of training, and honed his narcotic detection skills to 99.97%. Diego will be missed.
