SJR69,1,52 Whereas, Bryan Bartlett "Bart" Starr became a legend within the state of
3Wisconsin, not only through his unprecedented skills and accomplishments on the
4football field, but through his extraordinary charitable contributions and his
5remarkable role in multiple organizations throughout Wisconsin; and
SJR69,1,86 Whereas, Bart Starr was vital in helping the Green Bay Packers and the
7National Football League attain the outstanding and impressive legacy that they
8have today; and
SJR69,1,119 Whereas, Bart Starr began his legacy with the Green Bay Packers in 1956 and
10by 1960, he led the Packers to the Western Division Championship, which was their
11first of many successes with Bart Starr; and
SJR69,1,1412 Whereas, by the time Bart Starr left the Packers in 1971, he had led them to
13six division championships, five NFL titles, and two Super Bowl Championships;
1Whereas, throughout his 15 years as quarterback, Bart Starr was named Most
2Valuable Player three times, he held a number of NFL passing records, and he led
3the league in passing three times; and
SJR69,2,64 Whereas, Bart Starr was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1977, which
5was just one of the many honors and awards that he received. Others include the
6Byron White Award and the NFL Award for Citizenship; and
SJR69,2,97 Whereas, Bart Starr's hard work and dedication did not stop when he left the
8football field, as he played vitally important roles in organizations like the Rawhide
9Boys Ranch and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation; and
SJR69,2,1310 Whereas, Bart Starr was a co-founder of Rawhide Boys Ranch in New London,
11Wisconsin in 1965, which continues to help at-risk youth and troubled teens through
12difficult times by creating an environment where they can aptly work on their
13academics, receive valuable work experience, and learn important moral values; and
SJR69,2,1614 Whereas, Bart Starr, in the height of his success, donated much time, many
15resources, and priceless experiences with the boys of Rawhide to ensure its success;
SJR69,2,2017 Whereas, Bart Starr, beyond his tireless work with Rawhide Boys Ranch, was
18also involved in the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation where he accepted the role
19as an Honorary Chairperson of the organization, which was a title he held for 44
20years; and
SJR69,2,2421 Whereas, Bart Starr's involvement in the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation
22to raise money for cancer research and education has resulted in over $18 million
23being raised towards the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics located through eastern
24Wisconsin and has touched the lives of thousands; and
1Whereas, Bart Starr taught all of us that "desire and dedication are
2everything," and that through hard work, one can overcome daunting obstacles and
3fulfill one's dreams. Bart Starr lives by the T.E.A.M. principle which states that
4"Together Everyone Achieves More"; and
SJR69,3,85 Whereas, Bart Starr not only left a lasting, unprecedented legacy in the sport
6of football, but has left an ongoing and deep legacy in the state of Wisconsin through
7his generosity, service, and dedication to those in need, and for that, he will always
8be remembered; now, therefore, be it
SJR69,3,12 9Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
10recognizes Bart Starr's phenomenal contributions to the state of Wisconsin that have
11positively impacted the lives of so many citizens and congratulates him on his many
12accomplishments and achievements.
