2017 Senate Joint Resolution 33
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Donald K. Stitt.
Whereas, former state legislator Donald K. Stitt was born on November 26, 1944, and died on September 16, 2014; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt was born in Milwaukee, the son of Norman and Nancy, graduated from Whitefish Bay High School, earned his bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received law degrees from Marquette University and Georgetown Law School; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt served as a state legislator from 1979 to 1993, first as a representative for the 60th Assembly District until 1984, and then as Senator for the 20th Senate District, representing Port Washington and most of Ozaukee County, along with parts of Washington, Dodge, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan Counties; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt served on the Joint Committee on Finance as a member of both the Assembly and the Senate, becoming vice chairman of the committee in 1993; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt took a lead in reforming state securities laws during his tenure and earned a reputation for promoting economic development in Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt described himself as an "individualist" and subscribed to the concept of the citizen legislator who served his state and then returned to private work; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt served as the State Chairman of the Republican Party from 1988 to 1989; and
Whereas, Donald Stitt grew up along Lake Michigan and had a passion for sailing, was an avid hunter, and traveled extensively; and
Whereas, Donald was husband to Mary, father to Jonathan, Sarah, Lindsay, and Heidi, and grandfather to Patrick, Ryan, Adelaide, Lauren, Pierce, Michael, and William; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute Donald K. Stitt's public service and mourn his passing; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to his wife Mary and his children Jonathan, Sarah, Lindsay, and Heidi.
