Relating to a Special Election for the Fifty-Eighth Assembly District
  WHEREAS, on October 3, 2017, the Honorable Robert Gannon passed away at the age of 58; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Robert Gannon served as State Representative for the Fifty-Eighth Assembly District, the term of which office does not expire until the first Monday in January, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the passing of the Honorable Robert Gannon has created a vacancy in the office of State Representative for the Fifty-Eighth Assembly District as of October 3, 2017;
NOW THEREFORE, I, SCOTT WALKER, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, pursuant to article IV, section 14 of the Wisconsin Constitution and section 8.50 of the Wisconsin Statutes, order that a special election be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018, to fill the vacancy in the Fifty-Eighth Assembly District, the boundaries of which are set out in section 4.58 of the Wisconsin Statutes, as created by 2011 Act 43. A copy of the boundary descriptions may be obtained from the Elections Commission or the Legislative Reference Bureau. The term of office for the Fifty-Eighth Assembly District will expire on the first Monday in January, 2019. If a primary is necessary, it will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, November 1, 2017, and nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in the office of the Elections Commission, 212 East Washington Avenue, Third Floor, Madison, Wisconsin. This election shall be held, conducted, canvassed, and returned in accordance with law.
