The Honorable Scott Walker
Governor of Wisconsin
115 East, State Capitol
Madison, WI 53702
Dear Governor Walker:
Pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 8.50 (4)(e), I am writing to inform you of my resignation from the Wisconsin State Assembly, effective at the close of business on January 15, 2018. The citizens of Racine have done me the honor of electing me the Mayor of the City of Racine in a special election on October 17, 2017. I will be sworn into office this evening at the Racine City Council.
This resignation allows you to call for a special election in the same timeline as the one you called for in the 58th Assembly District at the end of last week, with a General Election on Tuesday, January 16. This is the quickest possible election timeline under the law, and will allow my successor to be seated before the final Assembly floor period in January and February. It also leaves the citizens of the 66th Assembly District without a Representative to the Assembly for the shortest possible period of time.
It has been a great honor to serve the citizens of the 62nd and 66th Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly. I look forward to working with you in a new capacity as Mayor of Racine.
Sincerely,
CORY MASON
State Representative
66th Assembly District
