EXECUTIVE ORDER #265
Relating to a Special Election for the Tenth Senate District
WHEREAS, on November 10, 2017, the Honorable Sheila Harsdorf was appointed to the office of Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Sheila Harsdorf currently serves as State Senator for the Tenth Senate District, the term of which office does not expire until the first Monday in January, 2021; and
WHEREAS, on November 10, 2017, the Honorable Sheila Harsdorf submitted to the Office of the Governor a written resignation a Senator for the Tenth Senate District, effective November 10, 2017; and
WHEREAS, this resignation will create a vacancy in the office of State Senate for the Tenth Senate District as of November 10, 2017;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SCOTT WALKER, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, pursuant to Article IV, Section 14, of the Wisconsin Constitution and section 8.50 of the Wisconsin Statutes, order that a special election be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018, to fill the vacancy in the Tenth Senate District, the boundaries of which are set out in section 4.009 (10) of the Wisconsin Statutes, as created by 2011 Act 43. A copy of the boundary descriptions may be obtained from the Elections Commission or the Legislative Reference Bureau. The term of office for the Tenth Senate District will expire on the first Monday in January, 2021. If a primary is necessary, it will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, November 10, 2017 and nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in the office of the Elections Commission, 212 East Washington Avenue, Third Floor, Madison, Wisconsin. This election shall be held, conducted, canvased, and returned in accordance with law.
