Senator Bewley, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the memory of a great man. Frank “Skip” Kempf of Glidden, born August 28, 1943, gave more of himself to his community than many people will ever hope to imagine. As a teacher and sports coach, he touched the lives of generations of students when he began teaching in his hometown of Glidden. As a businessman and executive director of both the Ashland Area and Park Falls Area Development Corporations, Skip demonstrated a keen business sense and managerial ability. He owned and operated many businesses such as Kempf’s Transportation, Kempf’s Sales and Service Auto Parts, Skip’s Amoco, and Black Bear Roller Rink. In his free time, Skip stayed active in the community and lives of his neighbors. He co-founded the Glidden Little and Pony Leagues, participated as a Parish Council Member at his church, trained as a volunteer firefighter, lead the Glidden Area Historical Society as president, and helped restore the Historical Museum. He was recognized for his impact in the community when he was named the Person of the Year by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce and elected to the Ashland County Board of Supervisors. Frank enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, spending time with his family at the lake, and making others laugh. Though he died on May 8th, 2019, Skip will be remembered for his impact in Glidden and all of northern Wisconsin, for his sense of humor and ability to fix anything that was broken, and the legacy of being a kind, giving person who never thought twice before helping out anywhere he could in the community.

Senator Shilling, with unanimous consent, asked that the Senate adjourn in honor of the last days of school. This week and next week are the last days of schools here in Wisconsin. It’s been a long second semester with a lot of days cancelled due to the weather. Senator Shilling wants to adjourn in honor of all of our teachers, administrators, the school bus drivers, and the support staff that keep our kids fed and safe. So the next three months, parents have them back home and schedules are filling up, and certainly we want to recognize the end of the 2018-2019 school year and say thank you to all of those who have a positive impact on our kids and our grandkid throughout the year.
